Last night, the Philadelphia Phillies inducted catcher Darren Daulton as the 32nd member of their Wall of Fame. I have mixed feelings about this. On the positive side, he was the leader of the Phillies’ 1993 National League Championship team, was a three time all-star, played 15 years for the Phillies, was plagued by injuries, and gives the 1993 Phillies a representative on the Wall of Fame. On the negative side, he only had a .245 lifetime batting average, had only two seasons over 65 RBIs and only two seasons with over 15 homeruns, had DUI and domestic violence issues, and has stated his quirky beliefs about the occult and that the world will end in 2012 when the Mayan calendar runs out. Do you think that Daulton should be on the Phillies Wall of Fame, or do you think they should be a little more selective as to who gets chosen?

There are a lot of crazy bad people in hall of fames. that does not rule out there ability to get in. Daulton to me showed great courage after under going, i think 10 knee surgeries. and still played catcher which i believe is the toughest position in all sports. He was a very good defensive catcher. Remember this is the Phillies , they have not always been what they are now. A guy like Daulton was the cream of the crop for phillies teams that were bad for years.
For the Wall of Fame, Daulton should only be judged by his play on the field. The fact that he claims to talk to lizards is another issue all together. I really wonder why Daulton hasn’t been thrown into a mental institution yet.
Lizards schmizards, he’s not 1/2 as crazy as Steve Carlton (the nutcase 2nd greatest lefthanded pitcher of all time who introduced him the other day) . I do like the new orange suntan look that I see on Comcast though. OK I admit it, I always wanted to be him like in the song “Be Like Darren”.
I always dreamed
That he was me
Oh to be like Darren
Why can’t I be Darren?
