Loved your blog on women play by play announcers in the NFL. In my book, “Playing Ball With the Boys,” I talked with Gayle Sierens, who, as you know, is the first and so far last, female to do play by play in an NFL televised game. I also talked with Lesley Visser, who did analysis a few years ago in a Dolphins pre-season game. I also talked with my former colleague at ESPN, Pam Ward, who, when I asked how she felt being a trailblazer, said “It’s hard to be a trailblazer when there’s no one behind you on the trail.” In my years of sports anchoring and sideline work, I’ve never had a high school or college female student say, “I want to do what you do.” It’s heartbreaking for those of us who want to see women succeed in the business of sports. Check out my book at http://www.playingballbook.com for more insight on women in sports.

Thanks Betsy. I really appreciate your comments. It doesn’t make sense to me why it’s still so hard for women to break into sportscasting.

Hi, went over to the article in above link. I really think women could add to enduring the commentators stupid remarks and comments. Maybe they would at least say something that was interesting!
