What’s Your Opinion of Obama’s Iraq Speech? Was Iraq Worth It?

President Obama took heat from both sides of the political aisle for his Iraq speech last night. Conservative Republicans criticized him for failing to give President Bush credit for the surge in troops, while Liberal Democrats criticized him for failing to hold the Bush Administration accountable for the decision to invade Iraq. I thought that Obama played it about right. Now that the combat phase is officially over, what is your take on the Iraq war? Was it worth invading Iraq? I realize that Saddam Hussein was evil, but he was contained. There were no weapons of mass destruction, Iraq had no ties to al Queda and they didn’t invade us on 9/11, Iran has gotten worse now that Iraq isn’t there as a buffer, thousands of U.S. troops and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis were killed during the war, and the U.S. spent over 1 trillion dollars on the war. What’s your take on Obama’s speech and whether the Iraq war was worth it? Please comment below. (Photo from the Christian Science Monitor).

  1. How many Muslim attacks have we had on U.S. soil since we went to war in Iraq? Thank you. The war was obviously well worth it.

Walter C. is scaring me a little. When I see him I might just walk the other way, although he does have a point. Muslims do recognize anything but strength. You cannot negotiate with them. I refer you to the writings of one Rabbi Meir Kahane. I hate that Iraq had to be invaded, but I do think it was necessary, and only a 1st step. Believe it or not, Bush had a secret plan. I know everyone thinks he was a dope. I don’t.

I also think that the White House visual arts staff needs to work on camera angles and focal length of lenses for Mr. Obama to deaccentuate his physical flaws. It’s bad enough what’s coming out of his mouth, but for the audience to be given an unflattering view of him will shift their brief attention span to his odd looks (ample nostrility, protruding ears and oddly thin head), yielding the inability to concentrate on what he is spewing forth in his pontificatory way.

My comment should have read “…Muslims do NOT recognize anything but strength”. Sorry that was a bad typo. I’m usually much more careful in my writing. That certainly changed what I was trying to say.

I also forgot to mention that out of focus foregrounds which are predominant in an image take away the effectiveness of what is being transmitted by the maker of that photo. I toured the West Wing and Oval Office when my daughter worked for President Bush. Every day his staff would put up new 16×20 mounted photos of what was happening, all professionally done with excellent quality. Obviously Obama needs to hire a new photographic staff. There is a very good one at http://www.kappturedmoments.com.

  5. The Qu’ran itself says that all Jews, Christians and Pagans must be purged from Earth. Just saying…
